Overview
Scrybe is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the Scrybe Chrome Extension and its associated services collect when you use them to generate, review, and type essays into Google Docs.
The short version: Scrybe collects only what is necessary to provide the service โ your account information and subscription status. The content of your essays and assignment details are processed on our servers to generate your essay and are not sold or shared with third parties.
By installing Scrybe or creating an account, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
Data We Collect
Here is a complete picture of the information Scrybe collects:
When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google OAuth. This is used to create and manage your Scrybe account.
We use Stripe to handle payments. Scrybe stores your subscription tier and essay usage count. We do not store your full credit card number โ that is handled entirely by Stripe.
When you generate an essay, your subject, grade target, rubric, and instructions are sent to our servers, which pass them to an AI provider to generate your essay. This content is processed to fulfill your request and is not permanently stored or used to train AI models.
Scrybe injects simulated keystrokes into your active Google Doc tab to type your essay. It accesses the page only to locate the document editor. It does not read, copy, transmit, or store the existing contents of your documents.
We do not collect your browsing history, device identifiers, location data, or any information from pages other than Google Docs. We do not run advertising trackers or third-party analytics inside the extension.

How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect only to provide and improve Scrybe:
- Account & authentication โ your email and name are used to create your account, verify your identity when you sign in, and communicate with you about your subscription.
- Subscription management โ your subscription tier and essay usage count are used to enforce your plan limits and process billing through Stripe.
- Essay generation โ your assignment details are sent to our servers, passed to an AI provider, and the resulting essay is returned to your browser. This content is not stored beyond the duration of your request.
- Service improvements โ we may use anonymized, aggregated usage data (e.g. average essay word count, feature usage rates) to improve the product. This data cannot be used to identify you.
We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with any party other than the service providers listed below.
Third-Party Services
Scrybe uses a small number of trusted third-party services to operate:
Used for sign-in. When you authenticate, Google shares your name, email, and profile picture with Scrybe. See Google's Privacy Policy.
Used to process subscription payments. Stripe handles all payment card data directly โ Scrybe never sees your full card number. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
Used to generate essay content. Your assignment prompt is sent from our servers to DeepSeek's API. DeepSeek's own Privacy Policy governs how they handle this data.
Used as our backend database and authentication provider. Your account data and subscription status are stored in a Supabase Postgres database hosted on secure cloud infrastructure. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.
Scrybe does not use advertising networks, marketing trackers, or crash analytics tools of any kind.
Sharing & Disclosure
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share your data only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers โ the third-party providers listed above (Google, Stripe, DeepSeek, Supabase) receive only the data necessary to perform their specific function.
- Legal requirements โ we may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government request. We will notify you where legally permitted to do so.
- Business transfers โ if Scrybe is acquired or merges with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify users before this occurs.
We will never sell your personal data to advertisers, data brokers, or any other third party.
Data Retention
We retain your data only as long as necessary:
- Account data (name, email, subscription status) โ retained for as long as your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
- Essay usage count โ retained to enforce plan limits and billing. Deleted with your account.
- Assignment prompts & generated essays โ not stored. Processed in memory to fulfill your request and discarded immediately.
- Payment records โ retained by Stripe per their legal and compliance obligations. Scrybe retains only your subscription status.
